The University of Kashmir came into existence when the University of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two individual universities – the University of Jammu and the University of Kashmir, in the year 1965.
The university has been granted grade “A” by National Accreditation and Assesment Council (NAAC). It serves as a state university and is a member of Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Various courses under different streams are offered by the university. The university has started offering courses in management studies from the academic year 1991.
Besides MBA, several other courses such as MCA and M.Tech (Embedded systems), Biotechnology, GIS and Remote Sensing, Bio-Informatics and Environmental Sciences have also been started by the university.
