National Institute of Technology Srinagar - Introduction

National Institute of Technology (NIT), earlier known as Regional Engineering College, was established in 1960. It is one of the noted institutes situated in north India, offering courses in engineering, PG and research courses.

The institute has been renamed as NIT and granted the status of Deemed University in 2003 by an act of University Grants Commission (UGC).

It was established during the first five year plan and recognized as the institute of National importance under the NIT bill.
