Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) came into existence in August 1982 by an Act named Agricultural University and Technology Act passed by assembly in March 1982.
The University has been named after patriotic leader, Jenab Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, popularly known as Sher-e-Kashmir.
The University operates on the Land Grant College concept of USA following the Model Act of State Agricultural Universities evolved by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research. It is a multicampus University.
Agriculture, Veterinary, Fisheries and allied sciences are taught here as main stream courses.
